Monroe Park 15th Anniversary Celebration

Fifteen years ago on October 29, 1998, Monroe Park and the Gold Mining Camp Museum opened due to the efforts and resources of Fauquier County Parks and Recreation, the Monroe family, and the Friends of Monroe Park. On November 2, 2013, the community celebrated the 15th Anniversary of this occasion. Matthew Knight from Lake Anna State Park gave a presentation on the history of gold mining and the life of Virginia gold miners, Cobbler Mountain Grass performed some bluegrass music, local prospectors provided panning demonstrations and set up prospecting equipment, a blacksmith set up his forge and apple butter was made in a kettle to show how things were done nearly a century ago.
